My Father Goes to Court

The How’s, What If’s and If ever’s:

1.            How are Filipino neighbors described in the story?

Answer:
Laughter is the best remedy of all times. Together with the poor man’s family, the neighbours socialize with them like they were a family. Sharing stories and laughers, dance like it’s the last time. They were always dependable and good. For me, they were the best neighbours I could ever wish for.

2.            What Filipino values are portrayed by the poor man’s family?

Answer:
It’s portrayed in the story how cheerful Filipinos can be. Always have time to find happiness even though all is dire and bleak. Never letting the problems overwhelm them, instead they smile to ease their pain and troubles. Even the strongest typhoon can’t ceased the tender lips of ours to stretch and show how beautiful our smile is. At the end of the day, it is just a horrible dream and we have to face tomorrow with a smile.

3.            How does the story reflect the present situation of Filipino families?

Answer:
As of today, many people still believe that money is everything. They forget the true essence happiness. They work hard, bring home huge amount of money and delicious foods yet something is still missing. Little did they know, their children and them were growing apart. It is not their stomach should be filled in but their children’s heart. Let’s remember that we are working for our family not for money.

4.            Does one’s social status affect his way of life, his principles? Why or why not?

Answer:
I think it does affect a person in many ways. If a person is at higher hierarchy position, usually they are more classy and sophisticated. More often, they believe that they were greater than those people below them. On the other hand, those who belong to lower hierarchy smile more and can see everything. For I believe that what really happens in the world can be seen in the eyes of those who can see what is happening above, watching from down below.

5.            How does laughter help you as a person?

Answer:
Just like any other teenagers, I’m not always in a good shot. I’ll sit quietly in my chair and say nothing, just observing what’s happening around me. Then, somebody will care to talk to me and make me laugh. Slowly, I can feel my mood is rising. Later on that day, I’ll be a jolly person again and stress-free.

6.            What does Bulosan’s My Father Goes to Court tell us about happiness?

Answer:
Happiness is priceless. Even how rich you are if you can’t find happiness then it will be useless. Happiness is not something that you can buy in the store. It is found in the everywhere, can commonly be found in the heart. All you have to do is look for it and you’ll be found.

7.            If ever you have a chance to talk to rich people in a convention, what important reminder will you tell them about living life to the fullest?

Answer:
There is nothing sweeter than sharing unforgettable moments with other people. Even you are so high up there, do not forget to look down and offer a hand to those who need it. To share what we have and do it genuinely. They may have all the luxurious things in the world but it doesn’t mean anything. Friendship and a good genuine heart is far more elusive than anything else.
